STOCK REPLACEMENT BUILD LEVELS

Short block engine:

Includes block, crankshaft, bearings, connecting rods, pistons, and oil pump. Shortblocks also include camshaft and lifters in OE engine builds where applicable. No gaskets are supplied with shortblock engines. The short block stock replacement build is a great option if you have just had your cylinder heads redone and need a strong OE replacement base. Short block builds require the inspection and installation of at least the cylinder heads and for many engines the timing components, so we strongly recommend only purchasing this build level if you are a qualified mechanic or are having the work performed at an automotive repair facility.

Long block engine:

Includes block, crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, timing set, camshaft(s), lifters, bearings, cylinder head(s), valves and springs. Stock replacement long blocks also include an oil pump and installation gasket set* for transferring components from your existing engine. This build is the top seller in stock replacement offerings and is backed by the top tier of our warranty offerings. Long block builds are completely tested in our simulation testing machine which verifies compression and oil pressure to ensure a quality product before it is packaged and shipped to you.

Premium long block engine:

Includes block, crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, timing set, oil pump, camshaft, lifters, bearings, gasket set*, cylinder heads, valves, springs, pickup tube and screen, oil pan and timing cover. For this build we started with our standard long block engine and added the timing cover and oil pan (including the pick up tube and screen in the oil pan). Our premium long block offering makes sure you have good covers installed professionally here at Tri Star and shaves labor time off engine jobs. Our premium long block is only available on select engines - look for a 'P' in front of the part number which typically designates our 'Premium' version, or call our customer service experts to ask if it is available for the engine you're looking at!

*GASKET POLICY: Complete gasket sets (as supplied by the manufacturer) are supplied with most long block and premium long block Original Equipment (stock) replacement engines. Tri Star is not responsible for gaskets not supplied in sets or for gasket upgrades requested by the customer. Always double check if you don't know what comes with your engine.

HIGH PERFORMANCE BUILD LEVELS

Short block performance engine:

Includes block, crankshaft, bearings, connecting rods, pistons, frost plugs and cam bearings installed. No gaskets, seals, bolts or other parts are included with performance short blocks. Our high performance short block builds are the perfect option if you are upgrading or refreshing your old build and using your current top end components. These are also a great choice for the hands on individual who wants to build and design their engine from scratch to pick a camshaft, heads and top end of your choice. 

Dressed long block crate engine:

Includes block, crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, timing set, oil pump, camshaft, lifters, bearings, cylinder heads, valves, springs, pick up tube and screen, oil pan, timing cover, valve covers and harmonic balancer. Performance long block engines do not include any gaskets, seals, bolts or other parts. The dressed long block performance crate engine build is a ideal for those who have an intake, carburetor and distributor to use already, or those who want to use top end components that are different from what we offer on our complete build. Long block builds are completely tested in our simulation testing machine which verifies compression and oil pressure to ensure a quality product before it is packaged and shipped to you.

Complete and dyno tested crate engine:

For this build we start with our 'dressed long block crate engine' and add an intake, carburetor, distributor, spark plugs and plug wires. This build level is tested on our in house dynanometer and includes a dyno printout with results. The complete and dyno tested crate engine build is our most popular high performance build. These engines are ideal for the person who wants the closest offering to a 'turn-key' engine and just wants to add their accessory items to finish off the build. Dyno testing these engines in house at Tri Star allows us to thoroughly test the engine under a load to verify performance and offer the most consistently reliable product.
